Denton Jeffery Chinn

Denton Jeffery Chinn passed away on Friday, August 6, 2021 at the age of 68.  Denton was born, raised and educated in Washington, DC and lived there until he joined his mother, Delores Chinn, in Williamston, NC after her retirement.

As a child, he enjoyed attending Eastern Branch Boys Club in Washington, DC.  He took pleasure in reminiscing about “the old days” to anybody that would listen.  When he really had a captive audience, he would entertain by telling jokes.  He could be found at the Williamston cab stand enjoying the company of those gathered there.  Denton liked to play basketball (he would brag about his left-handed shot). He had an aptitude for math, drawing, and woodworking. 

He held previous membership at Galilee Baptist Church, Washington, DC & Shiloh Baptist Church, Williamston, NC. 

Denton graduated from Eastern High School and earned an Associate Degree at Martin County Community College.  He

was employed by several agencies of the Federal Government and employed by Sara Lee in Tarboro, NC, and Roanoke River Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Williamston, NC.

Denton is survived by his son, Denton Trey Chinn; 3 siblings, Michael Chinn (Krishana), Kathy Matthews, Brenda Boswell; nieces, Sheena Chinn, Victoria Nelson; nephew, Brian Nelson (Gabriella) and a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, family, and friends. Denton was preceded in death by Jaqueline Matthews (Sister), Mishann Chinn (Niece), Thomas Matthews (Stepfather), Joshua Nelson (Nephew) and Delores Chinn (Mother).

Funeral Service will be held Saturday, August 14, 2021 at 12 p.m. at BIGGS × BROWN Funeral Chapel 310 Washington Street WILLIAMSTON, N.C.
