Dr. Carolyn Juanita Pierce-Reyes

 Dr. Carolyn Juanita Pierce-Reyes, 76, of 3290 Uniontown Road, Jamesville, N C passed on January 28, 2022 

Dr. Carolyn Pierce-Reyes, “Doc,” many called her was a lady that that had more layers than you truly knew about. And that was “OK,” that kept her mysterious and she made you want to know about her and what she knew.

Doc loved to teach, and to take care of those that could not take care of themselves. Teaching others and checking on their healthcare, which was part of her gifts. If I was teaching a person how to read, no matter the age, or wrapping legs and checking blood pressures, these were all her gifts. Any way Doc could enhance a person’s life, which is what she would do.

Mom and Namommi is what we called her and there will never be another one like her. She loved her Native culture, digging into genealogy and telling the stories she knew to be true about Piney Woods and Mattamuskeet.

A library has gone from our village. She is still with us in our hearts and in the stars. We simply need to look up and know what we are looking for. Mama Bear take care and love on all your people, heal your people, and connect your family.
