Naomi Jones Beslow passed peacefully from this life the morning of July 11, 2020 after a long battle with illness. She was surrounded and supported by her loving family and caregivers during her final days.
Naomi was born in Ahoski, NC on September 14, 1947 to the late Lucille Melton Sears and Cyrus Jackson Sears. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by sisters Cynthia (Peggy) Hopkins, Jaqueline (Sister) Gainey, Evelyn Faye Ledbetter, and brother Alvin E. Sears.
Naomi attended East Suffolk High School and later finished her nursing education at Howard University. She served for many years as a private duty nurse. She later graduated from Portsmouth Beauty School becoming a licensed beautician. Naomi committed her life to Jesus Christ joining Faith Baptist Church serving as a Sunday School teacher and church van driver. She later became a faithful member of Grove Baptist Church for many years before relocating to Williamston, NC where she joined Bibleway Church serving as a missionary. She committed her life to serving her family, church and community.
She was active in local civic and community organizations serving for over 40 years in the Order of the Eastern Star and was a Daughters of Sphinx in Portsmouth, VA. She served as the “Dr. Jay’s” little league baseball team mom for Charles Pete Little League and was the concession stand cook for the Cavalier Manor Pop Warner Little League football and baseball divisions. Naomi was a dedicated marching band parent for Woodrow Wilson High School.
Naomi’s devotion to her family, church, and community are exemplary of a loving parent, Christian, leader, and friend. She epitomized the meaning of great mother, community servant and leader. Her legacy will continue to impact the lives of others. Her favorite scriptures were Psalm 23 and Matthew 11:28-30
