On April 19, 1924 God entrusted George and Elizabeth Downing with the gift of a baby girl named Pauline. It was happiness in their home as her other siblings and family were excited about her birth. Pauline had a wonderful life and was a blessing to others until she received her wings on Sunday, July 7, 2019.
Pauline was a joy to be around and worked hard to make meaningful contributions to her family. Therefore, after receiving her education in Washington County Schools; she ventured to Baltimore and Solomon’s Island, MD. She will forever be remembered as a master seafood Chef. She loved and enjoyed her lifestyle living on the Potomac and Chesapeake Bay shores. Her laughter would brighten any room and words of encouragement were fitting for every situation. She loved her grandchildren dearly; they were strengthened by the truth of her love.
She was preceded in death by her parents George and Elizabeth Downing; her beloved son Elma Downing; granddaughter: Alice Downing; brothers: Joe B, Beatrice, Robert, Richard, Jay D Downing and sisters: Louise Downing, Mary Mitchell and Eva Smallwood.
She leaves to cherish and treasure her roots that grew deep with memories that will remain forever: her daughter, Annie L. James (Freeman, Sr.) Jamesville, NC; a brother Monnie Downing, Sr. (Kathleen) Plymouth, NC; six- grandchildren, eighteen-great grandchildren, and forty-five great-great grandchildren; an adopted daughter, Flora Whitehurst (Freddie) Jamesville, NC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, family and friends.
